Tobacco use is the leading cause of preventable illness and death in the United States. It causes many different cancers as well as chronic lung diseases such as emphysema and bronchitis, heart disease, pregnancy-related problems, and many other serious health problems. Information about tobacco may be found at
During the 2014 session of the RI General Assembly, amendments were made to Rhode Island General Laws 11-9-13 to add electronic nicotine delivery system (ENDS) products to the list of tobacco products that retailers are prohibited from selling to children under the age of eighteen (18); and RI General Laws 23-1-56 to require ENDS product retailers to obtain an ENDS retail license from the RI Department of Health.
As of 7/1/14, all tobacco and ENDS product retailers are required to display, for public view at each cash register, vending machine, or other place from which tobacco and/or ENDS products are sold, the following signs or exact duplicates in both Spanish and English. These signs may be downloaded from this website or exact duplicates may be made privately.
Please direct questions related to posting requirements to (401) 462-5686. Questions related to smoking cessation should be directed to 1-800-784-8669; and questions related to ENDS product licensing should be directed to firstname.lastname@example.org
