The Prevention and Planning Unit provides planning assistance and services for the development and implementation of behavioral health prevention, treatment, and recovery support policies, programs and services. The Unit also administers federal Block and Formula Grants from the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, the Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention, and the Department of Education.
The Unit develops and monitors the implementation of substance abuse prevention programs and programs to promote mental health and prevent the development of other behavioral health disorders. Also, the Unit administers programs funded through the Rhode Island Substance Abuse Prevention and Student Assistance Program Acts. The Unit also provides administrative and programmatic support for the Governor's Council on Behavioral Health.
In addition to the above, the Prevention and Planning Unit develops and submits applications in response to program announcements on behalf of the Division of Behavioral Healthcare Services. The Unit also conducts annual surveys of youth access to tobacco products and semi-annual surveys of youth access to alcohol beverages.
The Prevention and Planning Unit constantly seeks to support the development of healthy individuals and safe and healthy communities; and to support the successful integration into the community of individuals suffering from behavioral health disorders.
